Tonight I had to grab a sharpie and go on a mission of mercy.

Also found on my camera, a showdown:

[18 Dec 2009|03:51pm] |
Ben: ...so when I have sex, I try to make it as pornogriphic as possible.
Mark: ...
Grant: ...Pornographic?
Mark: Pornogriphic sounds like a mythological beast. The Pornogriff!
Can someone please go into MS paint and draw me a Pornogriff?

So I have the opportunity to get a free laptop. This is however subject to approval from the governmental type peoples (it's not a complicated story, but that's another post)
Anyway, so the big question is, would you get a PC or a Mac??
Now now hear me out, I do not like Macs. I have been a PC user since DOS command prompts and know how to troubleshoot Windows, most of the time. I would likely dualboot it with Ubuntu anyway, because I like where the Linux train is going.
However, I've been informed that the PC laptops are usually Dells (meh). Apparently the university has a deal with Dell to get 4 years in-home service free though. If I got a Mac, I would get some sort of Macbook type apparatus. Which according to a friend, are practically indestructible (this is a good thing because I'm rough on my toys!).
I realize I could dual boot the Mac with Ubuntu as well.
My current home system is also a PC/Ubuntu combo though, and sometimes files are not necessarily so back-and-forth between three operating systems. I know this because I've used Macs at friends' places, and school.
So then the next question would be: what do I use my computers for? Let's see if I can list them off in order of most used:
- Internet stuff like this and crack book and email
- When in school, Microsoft Office (though I used more Open Office at home)
- FTP stuff (uploading to my server - I nearly cried when I saw Ubuntu mount it as a drive, kind of the best thing ever!)
- Media stuff (like outputting video to my TV - used Winamp)
- Recording of electronic music (used Sony Soundforge)
- Manipulation of pictures (used Photoshop but can use other products)
- Production of electronic music (used Ableton Live, and would like to use Cubase, Reason, Fruity Loops).
So I realize that either PC or Mac will allow me to do all these things. As I said though, the biggest issue would be cross-compatibility of file formats. And that my hardware is detected consistently. Do I plan to use a laptop to perform? Not really, I always plan to use CDJs. Would I want to eventually get Traktor or Serato? Maybe, but that's not on my list and likely won't have the income for those for the next couple of years.
As I said though, I want to be able to drop it repeatedly and have it work fine. Not as in off a building, or run it over with a car, but I need to know that my shit will work with MY normal wear-and-tear. I don't want to have to get anything fixed. I want to be able to troubleshoot things myself, because when I have to wait on someone, it takes like 6 months (my home PC is a prime example - that's been more of an outdated hardware issue than an OS issue though). And I want to travel with it well!
PLEASE PLEASE refrain from making this more geeky than 1) I need to hear or 2) pertinent to YOUR usage. Advice is requested at your leisure, but the more that it sounds like a "my OS is better than your OS" kind of showdown, the less likely I'm going to hear your argument. ;)

Shane: We hooked up, but we didn't have "sex" sex.
Mark: I consider that sex.
Ben: Yeah, anything is sex if there's two men who intend to cum.
Mark: Yeah, it really comes down to Intent to Cum. There should be a legal term, something latin like habeus corpus.
Ben: Habeus Caucus!

so... lots of stuff happened this summer:
-started dating someone. though right from the start i didn't feel like it was going to last to long. which it didn't, i broke things off after about 4-5 months. i felt super bad though, he's an amazing person, and would pretty much do anything i asked him too. we still talk here and there.... but it's a bit rocky. he still tells me it hurts..... so maybe i should back off completely for awhile ?? -jackie (best friend, and also ex) and i had a weird situation that lasted a month. it was pretty bad, we were pissed off at eachother, fighting... so much so that we were wondering if we'd ever still be friends. thankfully things were sorted out, and we're back to talking non-stop everyday.... the weekly sleepovers/gossipfest...lol -david spent an amazing few weeks with me. i don't think i'll ever fall out of love with him.... highlight of the visit would have to be that there is now a whole in the wall by my bed....lol -my sister got married, that was lots of fun. -been reading a lot. one i would suggest u all to pick up.... the book of negroes .... sooooo good. -i made a mix cd as my xmas gift to my staff and co-workers. i forgot how much fun it can be!!!... i think i'll be making a new mix every month. if any of u would like to have one... let me know!! ... (i wonder if anybody even still reads my livejournal...lol). -spending as much time as i can with my little neice and nephew .... they are the cutest evar !!$#@
i dunno .... a lot of other stuff happened.... but i can't think of them.... it's almost 2am... next entry will be filled with pics.
.i'll throw my trouble : deep in the wild blue.

By "looking into new options" I guess I mean "sitting on the couch all day eating baby carrots and playing 90's video games alone."

NOOOOOOO!!!! Livejournal screwed up my custom page style, and I can't recover it. Looking into new options (possibly a new host that is more appropriate for persons over the age of 14).

Gosh, if I had a nickel for every time I've felt / been told I am like "a bear with a sore head", I would have .... absolutely zero nickels.
So crazy.

So I decided that the only way I'm going to keep running is to keep signing up for races. I decided I'm going to do a 5K race once a month leading up to the Sun Run in May (except I can't find a 5K in April that's NOT on the Sunshine Coast; it's not that I don't want to run there, I just need to be mindful of when Recompression may be this year, and I also don't think I'd want to go to the coast twice in a month - nor be able to afford it).
ANYWAY
This is the race log:
Santa Shuffle 5K – Dec 05, 2009 43:15 Chilly Chase 5K – Jan 17, 2010 not completed yet Historic 5K – Feb 21, 2010 not completed yet BMO St. Patrick’s Day 5K – Mar 13, 2010 not completed yet Vancouver Sun Run 10K – May 09, 2010 not completed yet
After that's all over, I don't know what I'll do. A 10K race a month? Fall over and die? Train for a half? Be crippled by an injury such as plantar fasciitis or achilles tendonopathy? Start trail running? I DON'T KNOW. I'm goal-oriented but too far into the future will not allow for changes and modifications. I'll see how I feel approaching the Sun Run. I still don't know if I like running. I just feel compelled to do it. It's fucked up!
